THE CONTROL OF ASBESTOS REGULATIONS ACOP L143

Duration: 2 days.

Textured decorative coatings (commonly known as artex) can be worked on or disturbed for a number of reasons, including during maintenance and repair, during replacement of lights and other fittings, during removal as part of room or building refurbishment and during removal or repair following damage due to water, fire or other accidental or deliberate acts. This training course is suitable for all employers whose employees carry out any of these works. It is aimed primarily at the maintenance, building and allied trades.
The course is sufficient to assist employers to comply with Regulation 10 of The Control of Asbestos Regulations. On completion of the course all delegates will be issued with an attendance certificate and an anti forge ID card valid for 12 months to comply with the refresher requirements as directed by ACOP L143.

• A brief history of the uses of asbestos
• Asbestos type’s properties and risks
• The effects of asbestos on workers health
• The type’s uses and risks of ACM’s in buildings and plant
• Procedures to deal with accidental exposure to asbestos
• How to avoid the risks of ACM’s in buildings
• Selection and use of the correct PPE and RPE
• Maintaining your RPE and the relevance of face fit testing
• Other hazards whilst removing artex
• The building of enclosures for work with artex
• The building and maintenance of airlocks
• Use control measures used on site for dust suppression
• Cleaning down the work area
• Cleanliness of plant and equipment
• Correct waste handling on site
• Practical session
