
Management of Asbestos Removal
Aims and objectives of this course:
To provide an overview and practical guidance using current HSE guidance and ACOP’s to enable the delegate to gain an understanding of the procedures for the safe removal of asbestos. The course will be predominantly based around the HSE guidance document HSG 247; The Licensed Contractors Guide, as well cover the legislative elements to understand the qualification of un-licensed works with asbestos and general legal requirements placed upon the client and contractor.
The course content:
1. Asbestos, the historical use’s, types and characteristics – (overview).
2. Overview of the health effects of exposure – (overview).
3. Types, risks and locations of ACM’s in buildings – (overview).
4. Legislative requirements on asbestos removal contractors and employers;
5. Understanding exposure levels and fibre measurement.
6. Preparation and planning for asbestos removal.
7. Pre-start procedures and pre-clean
8. Use and maintenance of the decontamination unit whilst on site.
9. Construction, maintenance and standards for enclosures.
10. Transit routes and transit procedures.
11. Asbestos removal techniques including PPE and RPE standards.
12. The certificate of re-occupation - role of the analyst.
13. Accident and emergency procedures
14. Transportation and safe disposal of waste.
